Appeals to Fear

I wanted to use this week’s assignment and the advertisements I found concerning climate change to not only compel reader’s interest out of fear but to really get them piqued by the seriousness of it becoming more apparent all around the world. We may be blessed with our great weather in the United States, especially California, but there are places that are on the opposite end of the luck meter that are experiencing serious effects of climate change like: flood, drought, and extreme cold and heat weather that can be fatal to people. All of these may seem like dreadful catastrophic weather, but it is actually just a preliminary to how much worse it can really be when climate change is in its no-return phase. Just like the advertisement said, we could have prevented it but we didn’t. Please don’t let this become a reality for your future or the future of our later generations. Conserve, recycle, and find out more information of what you can do to make a difference. It doesn’t need to be in monetary value, I find the best way is to convey the seriousness of it to those around to spread the words so we can make an impact in the ways we consume and dispose the resources that we take for granted.

  1. I really enjoyed your post on your appeal to fear. What struck out to me as interesting was that it was easy to find an appeal to fear if it was related to smoking or drinking. Unlike smoking and drinking, global warming will not effect us physically, which is why we wont be able to take care of it until its too late. Most people are unaware that it is possible to run out of drikable water, which is why this advertisement is important to call out to the audience for global warming awareness. In order to save the environment, all of us must take part in it by "Conserve, recycle, and find out more information of what you can do to make a difference." If we all can take a stand on trying to slow down the process of global warming, we may be able to prevent all the catastrophic events that may occur.

  2. I just commented on someone's post about their advertisement on global warming and it is very interesting that there are multiple types of advertisements using appeal to fear through global warming. In this care to me this advertisement does not make that much sense due to the fact that it says that we are running out of water due to global warming, yet global warming is creating more water which is kinda contradicting the advertisement using appeal to fear. I may have not understood the advertisement well enough, but I do not see this advertisement as a very good argument.
